Masters of Education: Learning, Design, & Technology
I completed my undergraduate Bachelors of Arts: English & Letters with an emphasis on creative writing (poetry) at Lewis & Clark College. In preparation for my transfer degree, I attended two different community colleges: Muskegon Community College and Portland Community College. After my undergraduate degree, I pursued a pre-nursing track for two years before ultimately making a commitment to a career in distance learning. In 2019, I began my work in the MEd Learning, Design, & Technology degree program. In pursuit of this, I also completed post-baccalaureate certificates in e-Learning Design, as well as Educational Technology Integration. In addition, I completed a capstone portfolio of works, which can be viewed on Penn State’s WordPress.
Here is the coursework I completed as a part of the MEd program:
- ADTED 531 Course Design and Development in Distance Education: In-depth study of the practices of designing courses taught by print, broadcast, and telecommunications media to adult distance learners.
- LDT 415A Systematic Instructional Development: Preparation in the use of a nine-step model for systematically analyzing instructional problems and developing validated, practical solutions.
- LDT 440 Educational Technology Integration: Surveys contemporary readings, software, and hardware to explore the intersection of learning, teaching, technology use. Students analyze contemporary uses of technology to support learning through readings, multimedia, and hands-on experience
- LDT 467 Emerging Web Technologies and Learning: This course examines emerging Web technologies and explores their application to learning and education.
- LDT 505 Integrating Mobile Technologies into Learning Environments: Research on learning with mobile computers and models for mobile computer integration for K–12 schools, community organizations, and universities.
- LDT 527 Designing Constructivist Learning Environments: Designing learning environments based on constructivist principles of learning that provide modeling, coaching, and scaffolding.
- LDT 550 Learning Design Studio: Examines a range of skills, processes, and theories for designing and developing interactive educational materials.
- LDT 566 Computers as Learning Tools: Amplifying thinking or organizing mental functions with computers.
- LDT 581 Theoretical Foundations of Learning, Design, and Technology: Analysis of theoretical foundations of the instructional systems (systems and cybernetics, communications, cognitive psychology, sociological, constructivist, ecological) for doctoral students.
- LDT 832 Designing e-learning Within Course Management Systems: Practical design of instructor-facilitated online lessons taking advantage of the affordances and within the constraints of course management systems.
