This is a workforce training module designed to prepare nurses and staff for a new, standardized alert system which utilizes lights and tones to signal certain situations.

Note: Previous iterations of this module included a custom Storyline drag and drop activity, also available to view in Review 360.

Problems, Solution, and Result

  • Identified problems: A new standard was being implemented and a large workforce needed to comply.
  • Solution: A no-frills, visually engaging, universally designed training which emphasized the need for the change while also ensuring recall.
  • Results: The training was rolled out as a part of a larger change-management strategy, and with an enforced quiz score within the package, there was reliable assessment of recall.

Specific Design Elements & Rationale

Quizzing Emphasis

Given the task is largely a recall/remember task, I opted for an approach to fold in a flashcard-like experience as much as possible.

Universal Design for Learning

Even with the assumption of “able-bodied” learners, I opted for multiple means of delivery for the same information (light, tone, light and tone, descriptions, images).

Providing Options for the SME

After discussion of the merits of a final quiz in knowledge acquisition, the SME ultimately decided on an attestation. However, I made a version with the quiz in case of a future change in heart.
